I have started a project aimed at creating a new body of work. An early subject in front of my lens was Brisbane family photographer Lynda Coulson.
In this image of Lynda we find quite a confrontational approach – I am attempting to delve deep into the character of my subject.
With a background of working with black and white film emulsions and using the 6x6cm Hasselblad system, I am attempting to replicate a medium format, filmic look and feeling, using my full-frame Nikon D800 and a 60mm Micro Nikkor lens. This is bringing me very close to my subject and requiring an intimate connection between subject and photographer that is not necessarily achieved with a longer lens.
I will display more of the Poole Portrait Project in the near future.
